What is the Witch Wound?

The Witch Wound is a collective trauma carried by humanity, particularly by women, stemming from times when female wisdom, intuition, and power were suppressed or punished. Persecution for being different, the demonization of spiritual freedom, and the marginalization of those who challenged societal norms left a deep imprint of fear. This fear remains embedded in the collective subconscious and can impact how we express our uniqueness and potential.

Today, there may not be witch hunts as in the past, but the trauma lingers, manifesting through internal conflicts, insecurities, and limitations, as well as through people who still try to put us “in our place.” Just thinking about it frustrates me. And while they claim to support diversity, they tell us, “We’ve lost our traditions,” meaning we should go back and remain silent.

As a result, we see female oppression, fear of self-expression, a weakened feminine energy that is no longer magnetic, and difficulties in claiming money, better jobs, and self-sovereignty.

How Does the Witch Wound Manifest in a Woman’s Life?

Work & Career:

  • Fear of criticism: You fear that if you speak openly about your knowledge or opinions, you’ll be rejected or ridiculed.
  • Insecurity about your abilities: Despite having skills and knowledge, you feel inadequate and doubt your worth.
  • Self-sabotage in career growth: You hesitate to pursue promotions, give public presentations, or showcase your work.
  • Difficulty in leadership: You feel forced to choose between being “likable” or “strong,” instead of embracing both.

Personal Life & Self-Awareness:

  • Fear of being seen: You prefer to stay in the background and avoid drawing attention to yourself.
  • Struggles with authenticity: You adapt to others’ expectations, suppressing your true self.
  • Difficulty connecting with others: You feel like people won’t understand you or will see you as “weird.”

Why Does This Happen?

Although the term “Witch Wound” isn’t part of academic psychology, its patterns can be explained through scientific mechanisms:

  • Transgenerational Trauma: Studies on descendants of trauma-affected populations, such as Holocaust survivors (Yehuda et al., 2016), suggest that trauma can be transmitted genetically and socially. Women who lived in societies where their freedom was punished likely passed that fear down to future generations.
  • Social Learning Theory: Societies where women were oppressed teach new generations to avoid power and visibility as a form of “protection.”
  • Impostor Syndrome: Many women feel inadequate despite their skills and knowledge, fearing they will be “exposed” as inauthentic.

The Witch Wound isn’t just history—it’s something we still carry. But recognizing it is the first step to breaking free.
